5 Common Scam Patterns in Bangladesh

Online scams do not always look like scams.

A Facebook page may look real.
The seller may talk nicely.

There may be many good reviews.
The price may also look normal.

So, you trust them and send the money.

Then the problem starts.

We looked at scam reports submitted to Trust Check BD and found some patterns that appear again and again. Knowing these patterns can help you stay safe before sending money.

⚠️ Note: The examples in this article are based on reports submitted to Trust Check BD by users. They are shared as reported experiences and should not be treated as a final legal judgment against any person or business.

1. They Block You After Getting Your Money

This is one of the easiest scam patterns to understand.

Before payment, the seller replies quickly.

They answer your questions.
They sound friendly.
Everything seems fine.

Then you send the money.

Suddenly, there is no reply.

You send another message. Nothing.

You call them. No answer.

Then you realize that you have been blocked.

Trust Check BD has received reports where people said they were blocked after sending money for a product or service.

This is why you should check a seller before making a payment.

Search their:

  • Facebook page

  • Phone number

  • Website

  • Payment number

  • Previous scam reports

A few minutes of checking can save you a lot of money.

2. They Keep Asking for More Money

This scam can be very tricky.

You send the first payment.

Then the seller says:

“The payment did not go through.”

So you send the money again.

Then they say:

“The code was wrong.”

After that:

“Send a little more to get your refund.”

You keep paying because you think your money will come back.

But it does not.

One report on Trust Check BD describes a case where a victim was asked to send 5,000 BDT first. Then another 5,000 BDT. After that, more money was requested for different reasons, including a cashback.

The reported total was 18,200 BDT.

The lesson is simple:

If someone keeps asking for more money after your first payment, stop and check before paying again.

Be extra careful when someone says you must pay first to get a refund, cashback, or account activation.

3. They Ask for Extra Money After Payment

Sometimes the scam starts with a normal order.

You choose a product.

The seller tells you the price.

You pay.

Then comes another message:

“You need to pay the delivery charge.”

Or:

“We cannot deliver the product without this payment.”

So you pay again.

Trust Check BD received a report about a fish order where the victim said they first paid 6,800 BDT through bKash. Later, they were asked to send another 6,980 BDT. When they asked for their money back, they said the number was blocked.

Before paying an online seller, always ask:

“Is this the full amount?”

Also ask about:

  • Delivery charge

  • Service charge

  • Extra fees

  • Refund rules

  • Cash on Delivery

If possible, choose Cash on Delivery when buying from a seller you do not know.

4. Do Not Trust a Page Just Because It Is Verified

A verified badge can make a page look trustworthy.

But a verified badge does not mean every service or transaction from that page is safe.

Trust Check BD received a report about a page called “Cyber 71”. The victim said they paid 2,000 BDT for a Gmail recovery service. According to the report, the service was not completed and the money was not refunded. The victim also said they were later blocked.

The important thing to remember is:

Verified does not always mean safe.

Before paying, look at more than the badge.

Check the page.
Check the phone number.
Check the payment number.
Look for previous reports.

5. Fake Reviews Can Make a Scam Look Real

This one is harder to notice.

A scam page may look very good.

It may have:

  • Nice product photos

  • Many followers

  • Good reviews

  • Positive comments

  • People recommending the page

You may think:

“This page looks real.”

But some reviews may not be real.

Trust Check BD received a report about a page called StyleClique. According to the report, the victim found the page through an anonymous recommendation in a group. The page had reviews and looked trustworthy.

The victim wanted to buy clothes and sent 300 BDT through bKash.

Later, the victim saw a post saying the page was involved in scams.

This is why you should not trust a page only because it has good reviews.

Look for:

  • Negative comments

  • Old posts

  • Real customer activity

  • Complaints on other websites or groups

  • Reports about the page or payment number

Remember:

A good-looking Facebook page does not always mean it is a good business.

What Do These 5 Scams Have in Common?

The stories are different.

But there is one thing they have in common.

The scammer first builds trust.

They may talk nicely.

They may show a verified badge.

They may use fake reviews.

They may offer a good price.

They may even look like a real business.

Then they ask for your money.

So, before you pay, ask yourself:

  • Has anyone reported this seller before?

  • Is this phone number reported?

  • Is the payment number safe?

  • Do the reviews look real?

  • Are they asking for money again and again?

  • Are they putting pressure on me to pay quickly?

If something feels wrong, stop and check first.

Take One Minute Before You Pay

We know checking a seller takes a little time.

But losing your money takes much more.

Before making an online payment, search the seller on Trust Check BD.

You can check a:

  • Phone number

  • Facebook page

  • Website

  • Payment number

See if other people have already reported a scam.

And if you have already been scammed, report it.

Keep your:

  • Payment receipt

  • Transaction ID

  • Chat screenshots

  • Seller's page link

  • Phone number

These details can be useful when making a report.

Your report may help another person avoid the same scam.

Final Thought

Scammers do not always look like scammers.

They can be friendly.

Their page can look professional.

They can have many followers.

They can even have a verified badge.

So, do not trust someone only because they look real.

Search first. Check first. Then pay.

Search before you pay. Report a scam when it happens.
